NTSB records indicate that 123 undetermined engine failures occurred in 2001.

 

 

2001 On May 3, 2001, Scovill made a FOIA request with specific request for information regarding a FAA spokesperson's comments made in the April 30, 2001 Wall Street Journal Article, Air and Water. The FAA denied release of some documents. Scovill received documents that were released in July 2001. The FAA's final FOIA response that explained the reason for denied documents was delivered to Scovill in March of 2002. The denial was not appealed.

On July 31, 2001, Scovill submitted an entreaty to the National Transportation Safety Board for reconsideration or modification of NTSB aircraft accident reports under 49CFR845.41.

2002 On November 14, 2002, Robert E. Scovill Jr. and Matt Taylor IA, Director of Maintenance, performed a sump drain test on a Cessna 150 fuel tank.

 

On December 4, 2002, Robert E. Scovill Jr. and Matt Taylor IA, Director of Maintenance, performed a sump drain test on a Cessna 152 fuel tank. 2002

 

NTSB records indicate that 83 undetermined engine failures occurred in 2002.

 

 

On October 29, 2003, Scovill submitted a letter to the FAA's Nashville Flight Standards District Office alerting them of suspected problems with the Cessna 150 fuel tank's and the Cessna 152 fuel tank's sump and drain design based on the November 14, 2002 and December 4, 2002 tests.

On December 22, 2003, Larry Williams of the FAA's Nashville Flight Standards District Office responded to Scovill's October 29 2003 letter that makes note of Scovill's and Taylor's Cessna 150 and Cessna 152 fuel tank tests. Williams expresses his concern of the results and submits safety recommendations to AAI-200 in Washington DC.
