NTSB Preliminary Narrative (6120.19A) |
On December 18, 1993, at 1323 central standard time, a Cessna 182Q, N96591, was destroyed during a forced landing, near Dalhart, Texas. |
The pilot/owner sustained serious injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal flight. |
During an interview with a Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot reported that three minutes after takeoff from Dalhart Municipal |
Airport the engine lost power. He further stated that he was at an altitude of 500 feet and was forced to land on unsuitable terrain. |
An engine teardown, revealed no discrepancies that could explain the loss of power. |

ABOUT 3 MINUETS AFTER TAKE OFF AT 500 FEET AGL THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND PERFORMED A FORCED |
LANDING. AN EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE FAILED TO REVEAL ANY DISCREPANCY THAT COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH A POWER LOSS. |
