Dear Mr. Horton: |
Thank you for sending your reflections on aviation accident prevention. I., too, am increasingly concerned that we are just brushing the surface in learning anything useful about what causes accidents and that we are not effectively applying the few good lessons we've learned. Those cloistered in the offices of Disneyland East seem to want to throw systems and new technology at every problem. |
The design defect you mentioned is, I assume, the PA-23 fuel tank problem. In case you aren't aware of the FAA's latest tack in addressing that problem, I'm enclosing a brief report from our December 1995 issue. I'd be interested in your thoughts on whether the ramps are a better idea than the wedges that AOPA shouted down. |

Sincerely, Mark M. Lacagnina |
