PURPOSE

To provide a modification for installing fuel tank quick drain valves in place of the existing drain plugs. These drains will assist in the detection and removal of water and/or other fuel contaminants in the wing fuel tanks.

With the airplane on a level surface, fuel samples from each fuel drain shall be taken during each preflight inspection to verify that the airplane has been serviced with the correct aviation fuel and that no water or other contaminants are present. Water, contaminants and/or unidentifiable fuel shall be removed from the fuel system before flight.

Failure to verify that the airplane has been serviced with the proper type grade of aviation fuel and to remove all fuel contaminants before flight may result in loss of engine power or engine stoppage in flight.

 

COMPLIANCE

Mandatory: shall be accomplished within the next 400 hours of operation or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

 

NOTE:

This Service Bulletin supersedes Cessna Single Engine Service Information Letter SE79-45; Fuel Quick Drains for single engine airplanes. If SE79-45 or FAA AD86-19-11 has previously been accomplished by installing AK150-62, AK177-23, AK177-37, AK180-77, AK206-61 or AK210-89 (or later revision), compliance with this Service Bulletin is not required.

 

 

APPROVAL

FAA approval has been obtained on technical data in this publication that affects airplane type design.

For Reims Aviation airplanes, DGAC approval has been obtained on technical data in this publication that affects airplane type design.

 

MAN-HOURS

Estimated 0.3 man-hour per valve.
